Meet the Poet: Robert Fergusson

Join us to mark the 250th anniversary of Robert Fergusson’s death

Begin your journey with our standard one-hour guided tour. Then, join us for a unique 30-minute experience where you’ll meet Robert Fergusson himself, one of Scotland’s most beloved poets!

Fergusson will share the story of his life and recite some of his most cherished poems. You’ll also have the opportunity to try your hand at writing your own verse, inspired by the poet’s works and the rich history surrounding you. For those looking to elevate their experience, add a dram of our special Scottish blended whisky and raise a glass in a toast with Fergusson himself.

This event is part of a broader initiative by the University of Glasgow’s research project The Collected Works of Robert Fergusson: Reconstructing Textual and Cultural Legacies, which is funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The project is preparing a new edition of Fergusson’s complete works, due for publication by Edinburgh University Press in 2026. As part of this initiative, they are holding numerous events to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Fergusson’s death in 2024. The project aims to give Fergusson’s literary, textual, biographical, linguistic, medical and cultural legacies the timely recognition they deserve.
